48t Intermodal Freight Trial Consultation
Rail Freight Group (RFG) was pleased to respond to the consultation on the DfT’s proposals for a 48-tonne intermodal freight trial. RFG has been aware of the proposals in this consultation for some time, and we submitted a position paper to DfT and Transport Scotland last year. Our position has not changed since that paper was prepared. We believe that the proposals set out in the consultation strike a reasonable balance and are broadly in line with our position. A well-managed trial, which will allow the benefits to rail freight to be established whilst testing other elements of the proposal, appears to be a sensible way forward.
