East Midlands rail franchise public consultation
Rail Freight Group (RFG) is pleased to respond to the DfT’s consultation on the East Midlands Rail Franchise.
The East Midlands franchise is extensive, and throughout its operations it shares routes with rail freight services. The core Midland Main Line route is dominated by construction services from the East Midlands quarries cluster, whilst the Hope Valley sees similar trains from the Peak District. These services deliver around 10m tonnes per annum of stone and cement into the construction industry and industrial process across the UK particularly, though not exclusively, in London and the south east.
