England’s Economic Heartland Outline Transport Strategy
Rail Freight Group (RFG) is pleased to respond to initial consultation on the England’s Economic Heartland (EEH) outline transport strategy.
Freight transport, whether by road or by rail, takes place on a national basis, with flows of goods stretching across the country. Deliveries in one area are served by warehouses in another region and from manufacturers and ports across the country. Yet the demands of freight transport have significant weight at a regional and local level, and unless they are planned effectively can also have externalities for the region.
As a region, EEH highlights perfectly this complexity. The area is home to significant logistics activity, with warehousing particularly prevalent in the area. It is also served by many of the main transport networks for freight, with goods either coming to or from the region, but also through it, on infrastructure which is also in demand for passenger transport.
