Rail and Urban Transport Review Call for Evidence

Rail Freight Group (RFG) was pleased to submit evidence to the Rail and Urban Transport Review Call for Evidence.

Rail freight is an essential part of the UK freight and logistics network. The sector moves around a quarter of all containers that are imported and exported through our ports, and around 40% of construction aggregates into the southeast. Rail freight supports construction, retail, steel, automotive, waste, industrial minerals and postal business, amongst others. With each freight train keeping over 75 HGVs off the road on average, rail freight helps road decongestion, and in doing so makes 76% less carbon dioxide than the equivalent journey by road.
