The RFG team were out in force at the Multimodal Show this month, as we exhibited with members on our popular Rail Freight Pavilion. Our Director General Maggie Simpson OBE was busy making the case for rail by chairing two key seminars in the Logistics UK Conference theatre. The first debate covered the digital railway and then a second seminar on encouraging more retailers to put their goods onto the network. It was a great event and thank you to everyone who came over to the stand and met with the team.
Our lead story in this issue is the new ‘Modal Shift Programme’ announced by DP World. It is offering incentives to shippers to shift more goods to rail and it is a scheme that has the potential to provide a real boost to the intermodal sector. Meanwhile, on page 3, Tarmac has pledged its commitment to further decarbonising its operations and has signed up to Logistics UK’s Route to Net Zero campaign.
We also welcome a number of guest articles in this issue, including our regular Westminster Update column from JR Consulting, Leann Bliszko, Strategic Freight Unit Programme Manager at the Great British Railways Transition Team (GBRTT) and articles promoting women working in rail freight today from Ciara Middlehurst and Claire Peers at NTS.
