RFG supports White Rose Agreement with rail freight snapshot for Yorkshire
In April 2025, RFG was asked by the York and North Yorkshire Combined Authority to help them understand the scope of rail freight traffic in North, South and West Yorkshire. Mayors from these three areas made an agreement to collaborate under the ‘White Rose Agreement’ to work together on areas of mutual priorities, including rail.
Recognising that it can be challenging to establish a simple snapshot of what rail freight flows operate in different regions, RFG pulled together a clear one-page summary from a wide range of public sources that set out the sectors and corridors of rail freight active in the region.
While the list was a little ‘frilly’ around the edges as ceremonial counties and metropolitan boroughs can be vague, the summary amply demonstrated the vibrancy and range of freight movements in the region. While we cannot be 100% certain the summary is completely accurate (feel free to feed back on any incorrect or missed entries!), and of course it is a snapshot at a moment in time, it will complement other regional summaries that RFG has produced for Manchester Aggregates and the North East that regional stakeholders have found useful in shedding light on the contribution our sector is making to the regions.
