Martin Bignell began his career with in marketing and commercial roles with Potter Group, exposed to rail freight as terminal operator, customer and 3PL logistics service provider. There followed a freight market development role at the SRA, which added public policy development, including the original Strategic Rail Freight Interchange policy. With an MSc in Logistics and Supply Chain Management from Cranfield, since 2006 he’s been independent working for consultancy and service operator clients on UK and European projects across modes - rail, maritime and urban mobility. These have included market evaluation studies, and bidding and mobilising tendered transport operations; passenger rail franchises, ferry services and large-scale public cycle hire. Besides any freight aspects to these projects, he’s been central to proposition development in areas as diverse as rolling stock strategy, technology applications, stakeholder engagement, market and customer experience, commercial and operational approaches.
