East West Rail Non-Statutory Consultation November 2024
Rail Freight Group (RFG) was pleased to respond to the East West Rail Non-Statutory Consultation.
RFG supports the construction of this new railway as a strategic addition to the national rail network. We welcome the request by the UK Government to include provision for freight traffic and the measures outlined by the East West Rail Company (EWR Co.) in response to this within the consultation documents. We welcome the fact that EWR Co. are engaging with Network Rail and with freight operators in developing their proposals.
RFG supports full electrification of this new railway. Discontinuous electrification does not offer sufficient benefits for freight to operate efficiently, sustainably or ensure that line capacity is exploited to meet future demand for both freight and passenger services.
