Martin Bignell gears up for Tour de 4 charity challenge

On 6 September 2026, RFG Scotland and North of England Representative, Martin Bignell, will be cycling to raise money for Prostate Scotland, joining hundreds of others at Sir Chris Hoy’s Tour de 4 fundraising ride. 2026 will be the second year of the event, which Sir Chris conceived following his own diagnosis of Stage 4 cancer.

Martin said: “Although I like to watch the Tour de France and am prime MAMIL (middle-aged man in Lycra) age, my bike isn’t usually much more than a garage ornament. Having been inspired by last year’s event and experience in the family of prostate cancer, I thought I should dust off the bike and give it a go for a good cause. We’ll be starting and ending at the Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome in Glasgow, with a 38-mile circuit out to Moodiesburn, Lennoxtown and back around to Bishopbriggs in between.

“Training started a bit late due to holidays, but I’m close to some great cycle paths. Here I am on what was the Devon Valley Railway, getting some miles in.”
